Toshiba 3TB Canvio Desktop Hard Drive Slow and Glitchy

Hello everyone,

So I've had this hard drive for a year and a half now and it has always worked fine. All of the sudden, the hard drive has been running really slowly and not responding frequently. It seems to be an issue with only certain folders. I can watch some of the videos and see some of the images, but with others, as soon as you click on the file folder the window will freeze and then start not responding. This happens with maybe 10-20% of the files. When i plug the hard drive in sometimes it will tell me that I need to format the drive and other times it will tell me that the files are unavailable. I am using Windows 7 Premium, on a dell laptop. None of my hardware or software has changed recently, so I can assume that that is not the problem. It uses a USB 3.0. I have tried multiple usb port (both 2.0 and 3.0), multiple cables, restarting my laptop and everything else I can think of. Is there any way for me to either a) recover my data and b) continue to use this hard drive?

Thanks,

Red

Hi red997,

A good thing to do is to check your external hard drive for any errors. Download "SEATOOLS" diagnostics utility and use this program to test your computer external HDD for any errors.

Please provide an update when testing is done, thank you.

Hi red997,

I believe the program "GetDataBack" will allow you to recover all of your files, including the corrupted ones (Someone correct me if i'm wrong). Nonetheless, this is a good data recovery utility.
