Strange!:Intel E6550 cpu stuck at original clock speed

Just bought the Intel Dual Core E6550 (2.33 ghz) with the Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD board just to play with the Overclocking potential...
Yet no matter what I change in the BIOS, the clock speed as per the CPUZ is stuck at 2333.5 MHZ
Anyone have any clue ? What am I missing.
I am able to change CPU Operating speed in the BIOS :
External clock - (Any values from 227 to 500)
Multiplier (seems to only accept 7, although their are higher choices)

I can change the CPU core voltage to anything from Default 1.35 v to 1.500 v..yet it doesn't seem to matter

I am leaving the memory (DDR2 667) to default values ...

Is the Intel stepping technology taking over ?

You are correct, they aren't all the same. Some might actually be relabeled E6850s and E6750s that were sold as E6550s because of the higher demand. Thats why some overclock much better than others.

Just to give you a reference, I can get my E6550 up to 2.56GHz on all stock voltages. FSB is up to 367MHz.
