My computer has encountered this problem for nearly a weak now, drive me crazy. I tried everything : reinstall window, update Ethernet Controller drivers, reset winsock, obtain Ip and DNS automatically etc... I've gone to a lot of forums but nothing worked...

Its symptoms : Local area connection still connected but I can't connect to the Internet, after I restart, It works again, but just for 5 minutes and it collapsed and got a really slow respond so the only option is restart.

I used a wifi modem, the wireless works perfectly, just the LAN network.

After it got disconnected :

Re: Windows XP SP2 cannot connect to the Internet.

Try setting the ethernet ip settings with a static ip and then see if you can ping the router (dont forget some router have ping replies turned off!) and also see if you can ping googles DNS server 8.8.8.8 (this does reply, just tested to make sure). Try uninstalling the network driver from device manager and then reinstall (make sure you have the drivers downloaded locally on the machine encase it requires it).

Re: Windows XP SP2 cannot connect to the Internet.

Give theses links a try, pretty sure the node is suppose to say hybrid:-

"Ipconfig /All" Command Shows the Node Type as Unknown - remember to back up your registry first or export the key!

Solved: Network Connection has "Unknown" node type, other issues - Tech Support Guy Forums
I tried, but the result is still the same.

I couldn't find the registry EnableProxy in the directory because there wasn't any.

At the second link, i tried to reset winsock and reset.log but it still collapsed.

Is there any chance that caused by the modem?

Hello Alexi86,

Seems to be that you have tried a lot of things....
Your Profile says XP, if you're using XP and still on SP2 you shd update your XP Service Pack to SP3 then followed by Windows updates.

How about using a new or spare network cable?

Also, I don't think the Node Type will make any difference. If it's a Peer to Peer and if you're trying to share files and printer over the network, then the Registry fix would work. I have not seen issues as well with a Node Type of 'Unknown'. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

If above recommendations didn't help, you may just buy a new NIC, they are very inexpensive.

Re: Windows XP SP2 cannot connect to the Internet.

About a week a go, my computer worked just like normal...

Then I bought a new modem which is a wifi one and I decided to upgrade my system to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 activated. Because now there're a lot of programs don't compatible with Windows XP SP 2. I encountered the same problem but I solved it by rename a .sys file in Adapter driver and copy it to System32/drivers. It worked fine, but then a lot of BSOD showed up, after sometime fix it I was quite frustrated because there wasn't any complete solution for that.

Thought that maybe my motherboad doesn't compatible with Windows 7, I installed Windows XP SP3. It was exactly the same, after I restart about 5 - 10 minutes, It collapsed, still, the Local Network stay connected... again and again, and again...

That's the time I gave up and return to Windows Xp SP2 ... and that's where I am now. I changed a new cable, cleaned up the hardware, checked the wire ... everything...

Yes I'm using a torrent client and sharing files. How exactly should I fix the Registry 2xg?

My PC :

Main : ASUS M2N VM HDMI
Chip : AMD Althon x64 +5200
Ram : 4x1G Kingston DDR2
HDD : 3x1.5T Seagate
VGA : GeForce 9500GT 1G DDR2
