[SOLVED] Ping jumps around in game

A couple of days ago as soon as I join a server for bad company 2, 2142, or left 4 dead, my ping will begin to jump around and the screen will studder ever few seconds. The ping never seems to go too high, however, going from 40 to 160 sometimes but more gradually (40 to 70 to 90 to 110 then back down to 60) but isnt very consistent.

The problem is the same whether on a wireless or wired connection

I have up to date drivers for everything.

I have tried turning off my firewall and virus protection.

I dont have the best internet but it was working fine for months before. I had them refresh the signal to my cable modem but that didn't help either. :4-dontkno

UPDATE:

After doing some more testing on 2142 and Counter-Strike Source I found that my ping does go very high reaching over 700 and staying in that range for about 10 seconds or more and then coming back down to 30-40. This is on a wired connection, also.

Hello blindwuzi welcome to TSF

To assist you on this problem, can you tell the me make and model of your router and modem. When using a wired connection does it go through the router or straight from the modem? If you are using a wireless connection do you have a password on your router, I find alot of times people seem to have connection problems and high PING's because someone is stealing their internet. Please report back with some more info.

Both are linksys cisco make and models. It is password protected when it is used. But, I'm connected straight to the modem with no internet getting to the router and I still have a connection issue. I just did a full system scan with AVG and come up with nothing as well.
