[SOLVED] Delete Warning/Confirmation in Thunderbird?

Does anyone know if there's a way to make Thunderbird ask for a confirmation before deleting? I've searched all the options two or three times and couldn't find anything. It seems to work the same on both my computer and my mom's, it just deletes without a warning.

Thanks!

I can't find any option to display a confirmation message, but you can go to Tools > Account Settings, then click Disc Space for each email account and put a checkmark in the 'Don't delete any messages' box.

Yes, I see what you're talking about. I think that's for auto deleting old messages to free up disk space.

I recently set up Thunderbird for my mom and what I'm looking for is a way to display a warning/confirmation before manual deleting. She frequently clicks the wrong thing and ends up deleting messages or entries in the address book by accident.

Sorry, I can't find any way of doing that. Hang on for some more replies. We have a few Mozilla users here who might be able to help.

In the meantime, if you want to be able to recover any accidentally deleted messages, they are sent to the Deleted folder, so you can just drag them back to where they belong. Or use the Undo feature (Ctrl-Z or Edit>Undo).

You might also want to disable 'Empty Deleted folder on exit' under Tools > Account Settings > Local Folders > Message Storage, to prevent messages accidentally being permanently deleted when you shut down Thunderbird.

If you want a fool-proof alternative to Thunderbird, you could set up Googlemail for her, using either a new gmail account or import her current email account details. I use it for both gmail and regular email, and find it much easier to use than other email clients, with no risk of losing anything.
