First stop would be malware scans.

 

I've checked it with Ad-Aware, Spybot Search&Destroy, and now with Malwarebytes. The only thing any of them found were some tracking cookies, and removing them and doing a system restart didn't solve the problem. Do you have any suggestions for a freeware or trial malware scanner to use besides Malwarebytes?

 

Did you also do a complete virus scan with an updated AV program?

 

Ad-Aware is an anti-virus, but I also ran a full scan with Windows Defender and still have failed to find anything besides tracking cookies.

 

Adaware and Defender are NOT AV products! Do a virus scan with an AV product.

You can do a scan with any of these on-line as well.

which ad-aware are you using, If your using the free version it is only a spyware scanner, and not a Anti-Virus program, same as Windows Defender.

 

Ok.... Last I knew it had the full scanner but none of the other features, but if you say so. Would you have a suggestion for an good anti-virus scanner then?

 

I did an online virus scan with one of the ones you suggested (Kasperspy to exact) and it found an infected file in my mozilla firefox that was apparently was not-a-virus:WebToolbar.Win32.MyWebSearch.i, I removed it and did another scan to make sure my computer was clean after removing it and it is.

Problem is my router's security log is still going crazy. I'm going to try using the other scans also, but they take 2 and half hours per scan so it takes awhile. If you can think of any other possible reason why it's going crazy please let me know, and thanks for the help.

 

Try booting in Safe Mode with Networking and see if the router still sees the traffic. If not, you can use MSCONFIG to narrow down the suspects by disabling groups of startup processes in normal mode until it stops.

 

I tried both booting my computer in safe mode with networking and also disabling startup processes with msconfig, when checking the security log of the router it seemed fine until I actually did something that involved using the internet.

When I was in Safe Mode I went to the router's security page and cleared the log and it seemed fine after a couple of minutes so I opened up a second tab to see what would happen if I went to google and do a quick search. After doing so I checked the router's security page and it detected more attacks.

I did the same thing after disabling all startup processes and had the same problem.

I've finished the other scans also and they couldn't find anything. I'm not quite sure why, but it seems whenever I try to use my vista to use anything that would use the internet the router thinks it's an attack and registers it in the log but that's it. Besides creating a ridiculously large security log there doesn't seem to be any problem.

 

I have no idea what's going on. At this point, I'd probably be looking at the network traffic with WireShark to try to spot what's happening.
