I have a Samsung 850 Pro (512 GB) still in the box from years ago. Copyright on the box says 2014. Model number is MZ-7KE512.
I just bought a Saumsung 870 Evo (1 TB) which is also still in the box. Copyright on the box says 2020. Model number is MZ-77E1T0. I can still return it (got it from Amazon).
I'm going to be putting Windows 10 on it and running the Adobe CC suite for video editing and export, along with all the other business apps (Office 365 etc).
The machine itself is old, though (an HP EliteDesk 800 G1). It has an i7 and 32 GB RAM (the max it will take). It's still running Windows 7. I'm about to put Windows 10 on this new SSD and use the boot menu to choose OS drives until the Windows 10 drive has all my apps on it. I expect to be getting a new machine soon and still use this one additionally.
The question is if either of those two SSDs mentioned above is roughly about the same, all things considered (size isn't much of an issue since I have a separate drive for data and I haven't come close to maxing a 500 GB OS drive for the Windows 7 environment I've been running the company on for years). I might put one in another machine I need to migrate to Windows 10, too.
I've read comparisons about Evo vs Pro. So, I guess my real question is whether the 850 Pro I have from a long time ago still in the box should be considered "old" technology and if I'm therefore better off with anything in the Evo/Pro lines that I buy new at this time? And if the old 850 Pro is still perfectly fine, how would it compare to the new 870 Evo?
Thanks!
