I have an IBM Think Pad 600...never had a problem until today. When attempting start up, I receive an error message 08611. When I run the tests that appear, I find that I how have SystemBoard codes: DEV 086, ERR 22 and FRU 0010. All other tests prove my system "ok". Once the SystemBoard codes appear, I can't seem to find any means of fixing the errors.

My Think Pad operates on Windows 98. Since I can't access "anything in it, I am requesting info from my desk top that operates on XP.

My questions:
1. How do I start up in "safe mode" in order to retrieve my files?
2. More simply how do I get back to normal operating?

Hi william hagy,

1. Remove your HDD and slave it on another computer. You can use USB/IDE adapter cable so you can hook it up via USB on the other computer. If your HDD is still good, the other computer can recognize it as an external drive and from there you can save/move/copy/transfer your important files.

2. I think the error points to a bad keyboard (trackpoint to be more specific). Check this manual: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/09n1033.pdf. Consider replacement of keyboard as trackpoint is part of keyboard.
