If I click on the "Download" button from the website I linked you, it redirects me to the CNET Download page you linked me, so it's indeed the same program.

Can you screenshot the error message so I can see it?

Follow the instructions below to take a screenshot using Windows' Snipping Tool:

Are you sure that you enter the right password? What I suggest you to do is to open Notepad, enter your password and copy/paste it. Maybe you changed keyboard language and some characters aren't the same when you type the password in.

Re: how to open encrypted .dfc files

NO AM SURE I ENTERED THE NEW PASSWORD.. WAT I FEEL IS YOU TRY TO DO YOURSELF.. INSTALL FILE SECURE.. ENCRYPT ONE FILE KEPT IN A PENDRIVE... TAKE OUT THE PENDRIVE.. INSTALL FILE SECURE IN ANOTHER COMPUTER AND SEE WHETER YOU R ABLE TO OPEN IT THERE FROM THE PENDRIVE

THIS IS HOW HE FILE LOOKS .. JUST LET ME KNOW HOW TO OPEN THESE FILES .. DOES IT NEED THAT SOFTWARE ONLY OR THERE ARE METHODS TO OPEN THEM..

Hi PLETHORA, sorry for not getting back at you sooner. I'm currently installing File Secure Free on my USB before going to work and I'll encrypt a few files. Since I run Windows 8.1 at home, and Windows 7 at work, I can do the test between the two OS. However, I'm pretty concerned about this program since it tried to install a bunch of PUPs on my system, have detections on VirusTotal (the setup files) and my Kaspersky Internet Security also reacted badly to it because there was detections. If I were you, I would check your installed programs and uninstall the PUPs that this program might have installed on your system. I can help you with that if needed.

I just encrypted 5 images and 5 text files on the USB using File Secure Free, and I'm heading to work. I'll let you know in a bit!

Well, I'm at work right now, and I successfully decrypted my 5 pictures and 5 text files that I encrypted using File Secure Free. Note that I installed the program directly on the USB, so I don't know if it makes a difference or not. Also, for testing purposes, I entered the wrong password to decrypt a text file and it quickly prompted me an error message saying I had the wrong password, but nothing more. I tried the operation 2-3 more times, same result. Then I entered the correct password and the file was decrypted successfully.

Sadly, if everything works fine with me, it'll mean that there's an issue with your files and they won't be able to be decrypted. If you want, you could try to create a copy of these files, and see if the originals can be restored to an earlier version using the "Previous Version" tab in the file Properties. If it doesn't work, then I don't know what will.

Well, I'm home right now and I successfully decrypted the files I brought back from work on my USB, using both the File Secure Free installed on the USB directly, and on the computer at home. It seems like your files are indeed corrupted sadly.
