hi guys
sorry if i got the wrong sub-forum but i didn't know where else to post this
i have an Asus n61jv with Optimus Nvidia (integrated intel media accelerator + independent NVIDIA GeForce GT 325M) which uses the integrated card for displaying and the independent one kicks in for higher intensity operations
native resolution 1366 x 768
win7 ultimate 64bit
and i have the laptop connected to a Samsung SMFX2490HD 1920 x 1080
now when i connect via vga everything is fine,
but when i connect via hdmi the picture is displayed in 16:10 instead of 16:9
the monitor also functions as a tv, i have a remote and i need to manually switch it to hdmi/vga/etc. so i turn on the computer, switch the monitor to hdmi, while loading up it says "1024 x 768" on the screen. as soon as it did that i figured something was off... cause that's 16:10 not 16:9...
when win loads i can select 1920 x 1080 under display properties but the colors are all wrong, too intense, text is blurred, and the top and bottom of the screen are cut off.. the best i can adjust to is 1680 x 1050, then i can see the whole screen but it's still not crisp like on vga, text is fuzzy etc
so basically hdmi gives me this utterly crappy picture while with vga is crystal clear. yes obv solution would be to just keep on using vga  but i want to solve this hdmi mystery and maybe get an even better picture??
tried updating both my intel & nvidia drivers, device manager says they are fine
tried downloading some newer versions off the asus support site, but can't install them, says they're not compatible (yes i downloaded drivers for my exact model)
would be grateful for any help or ideas!
