Explorer crashes when trying to search for "File or Folder"

Explorer.exe crashes ( toolbar disappears - then comes back , search window disappears ) when I perform a search for a file and click on "All Files and Folders".

Once I click on "All Files and Folders" I receive the popup window "Windows Explorer" with a message "Windows Explorer has encountered and problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconevience."

If I dont click on "Send Error Report" or "Dont send" button - I can perfom my file search. The error windows will hang aroudn and stay in the foreground until I click either of the two buttons. When I click either one - the error windows disappears , so does the 'search' window and the taskbar disappaears , but then is repainted ( as if explorer.exe restarted).

A look in the event log shows this error message :

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.3156, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.3119, fault address 0x00012a5b

I performed a 'sfc.exe /scannow' to verify all the system files are good - nothing is reported and the scan completes.

Anyone have any ideas as to the issue ?

Hi, try defragin the hard drive and also run checkdisk. To defrag go to accessories, system tools and it should be there.
To perform checkdisk right click on local disk hard drive, properties, tools, error checking, check now.
