Driver Install/Soundcard Problem

Hi
I had installed creative sound blaster card and downloaded the software for the card 'Extreme Audio' model no:SB0790. I guess the card is a few years old.

When trying to install the software and when the blue screen comes up a message appears saying "setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system..."

I use an emachines computer model T2642, about 5 years old and it uses XP Windows 2000.

I did also disable the onboard sound from bios, however I cant get the software to load as the message states. I downloaded the driver from Creative website and downloadd the specific driver for the model of sound card I fitted.

I also uninstalled the software on original sound Realtek AC97.

There is no one to speak to any more in the emachine tech dept (there used to be) and I have emailed Creative about this problem but am awaiting a reply. I have now reinstalled realtek ac97 driver but am hoping to have another go, if there's anyone out there who might be able to help or have some ideas.

many thanks
John

"XP Windows 2000"...XP and Windows 2000 are TWO different OS's...so which OS are you using?

The error you are seeing is typically the result of trying to install the wrong driver. Verify the EXACT model of sound card installed, and then get the correct driver.

I downloaded the 'correct' software the correct model no. as listed on the Creative website and for XP windows but I have noticed after looking back at the site that the download doesn't specify XP home edition which mine is. It specifies the requirements as follows:
  • Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 7 32-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit with Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows Vista 32-bit with SP1, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) 2005 or Windows XP MCE 2004
  • Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio series audio devices listed above
So I have windows XP home edition and with service pack 3 and I cant find any other drivers so far from the creative website for the model of sound card I have (SB0790) for XP windows, Home.

I have emailed Creative about a week ago and dont have a response yet.

cheers
John
