Black screen when installing Windows XP Home!!

I used BCD to create a bootable windows xp install cd (slipstreamed with sp2) from the i386 folder in windows, which was saved before I lost windows with an accidental disk reformat.

The cd boots up fine and everything copies over and installs correctly with no errors. It then says it will continue setup after reboot, but after reboot all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left, with no errors. I have no idea ho to get setup to continue. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?:sad:

amd athlon 64 3000+
2gb PC 3200 Ram
radeon x800xt

PS:I am running Ubuntu Linux just now, but on a seperate partition and with Grub on a seperate partition and NOT on the MBR, and also Windows is on the First and active partition, so i don't think this has anything to do with it, but just in case, I thought I should mention it.

sounds like you need to load a driver with f6 during the install

usually a sata or raid driver
what m/b and drive

its an MSI 6741 / K8TM ILSR motherboard
I'm not sure how to find out if the hdd is sata or raid, and i have no idea what make it is

I downloaded the driver at the top of this page, booted with the xp cd, pressed f6 to install it an windows again copied all files over without error, but now when i reboot, i get the same flashing cursor, but with an 'å' on the right hand side of the screen. Does anyone know what this means?:4-dontkno

reading through the manual it does not appear a driver load with f6 is required
in the manual look at section 3-18 3-19
check that
pata ide controller is enabled in the bios
sata ide controller is enabled
check that you can see your h/drives listed in the bios

thanks for your help, I enabled sata and now windows continues the installation on reboot, but unfortunately it now says that it needs the asms folder from windows xp home sp2 cd. I have tried to run regedit as suggested here, but windows says it cannot run it. I have checked the disc and the asms folder is definitely there, but windows does not seem to be able to read the cd when I insert it. Is there anything I could do? Thanks in advance!

Nevermind, I just booted with the cd in the drive rather than inserting it during installation, so now windows is installed and running.
