I've done everything those sites said to do. If you look at the steps I've taken above, you could see that as all information provided match the instructions on any given website that state how to do it.

 

It is entirely possible to think you have done the steps but miss one, so it is always a good idea to have a visual reference to refer to it could be as simple as a mistyped letter

 

Thanks, but I've followed the steps provided quite carefully. I've also deleted and recreated my aol account in outlook several times now with the same results.

Very good suggestions on the website you provided but unfortunately those didn't fix the issue either. Is there no way to search for the error code that is generated when I try sending?
I tried googling it but the search results seem pretty confusing.

Ahh, finally got it to work.
I had to put in my username and password in the outgoing tab. the instructions on aol.com and other sites state that for the outgoing surver tab, check the box which says my outgoing surver is the same as incoming surver.
also put put Inbox in the root folder directory under the advance tab as well which one of the sites you mentioned above said to do.
