Soon after boot I get the BSOD while simply sitting on my desktop.
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1 (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff88005840431). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 021012-21231-01.

It seems to happen randomly and has no relation to what operation is being done on the system. The laptop is 13 months old and out of warranty. I am running Win 7 HP 64-bit SP1. This is becoming very frustrating! Any thoughts or suggestions? I have been unable to open the Memory.dmp file to see its contents (kind of new to this).

Thank you for your help! I downloaded and successfully installed the updated Firmware Extension Parser, but the system still goes to BSOD usually a few minutes after the initial boot of the day, without going beyond the desktop.

I was able to download the debugger and gathered the information shown. I pasted it to a word document and have attached it here I think.

BSOD Info per Instructions 1 - 5

Re: BSOD in 13-mo old Sony Vaio VPCEB45FX Laptop
We also use the lmstm command to check the drivers.
Please provide the information that I requested above

I think I have everything you ask for in instructions 1 - 5. I apologize, but I am not clear as to the meaning of "lmstm command" unless that is referencing instruction number 6, which I will perform after sending this to you. I am a bit of a novice at this, 62-yr. old who is feeling his way! Again, I thank you for your assistance.

Re: BSOD Info per Instructions 1 - 5

First things first alot of the BSODs mention NETwNs64.sys which is the driver for your intel wireless card. which I think is "Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN" try downloading Wireless_14.3.0.6_Ds64.exe the first file from here.

hope that helps somewhat

Re: BSOD Info per Instructions 1 - 5

Again, thanks for looking at this. I ran the Intel install as suggested. During install it told me "my driver is up to date" and did not install. I went out to the Sony support site and they have a new "critical release" dated 1/20/12 that addresses multiple wireless issues and a security issue, which I successfully downloaded. So far today, no BSOD! Typically I have at least two episodes in the morning, and then after the machine has run for awhile no more occur. I have my fingers crossed!

Please keep all of your issues in this one topic. I was lucky to spot the other topic that you had started and merged it with this one.

I mentioned the lmtsm command because it seemed that you were interested in doing the analysis yourself. Actually, I'm more comfortable with running multiple memory dumps using my methods.

As tomhcb has asked, please replace the current drivers with a freshly downloaded copy. It's not just a matter of it being older drivers - but it's also possible that it's newer drivers that are corrupted. Please:
- download a fresh copy of the drivers
- uninstall the current copy of the drivers
- install the freshly downloaded copy of the drivers

Currently running 36 memory dumps generated between Dec 2012 and the present
Gonna take a while...I'll post back when they're done...........

I'm sorry if I screwed up . . . but instruction #4. Zip up the entire output folder + PERFMON, create new thread HERE and attach the zip file. gave me the impression that I needed to send the zip file via the new thread as suggested. I updated all drivers via Sony's update site. Each now says it is the latest version available.

I am learning! So thanks again for all the help and encouragement!

Only 773 mB of physical memory (RAM) available. I'd suggest either cutting down on the number of startups and programs running - or adding more RAM to your system (if the system will handle it). Check the RAM specs at RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, SSD at Crucial.com

FWIW - the WER section of MSINFO32 agrees with tomhcb's suggestion. It also blames the Intel wireless network adapter drivers. Replace them as described in the previous post.

Your copy of regi.sys dates from 2007. This most likely belongs to a DVD video player (such as Intervideo). Please uninstall it.

Further info on BSOD error messages available at: http://www.carrona.org/bsodindx.html

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs:
3RD PARTY DRIVERS PRESENT IN THE DUMP FILES
- Create a System Restore Point prior to doing any of this. DO NOT mess with the drivers themselves - leave the Windows\System32\drivers directory alone unless we specifically direct you to it!
- Please either update the older drivers from the device manufacturer's website - or uninstall them from your system. Reference links are included below.
- DO NOT use Windows Update or the Update Drivers function of Device Manager.
- Please feel free to post back about any drivers that you are having difficulty locating.
- Windows Update exceptions may be noted below for Windows drivers.

Since updating/deleting old drivers as you suggested I have not had a BSOD in the past 48 hrs! Typically I was averaging three per day! Perhaps the driver fix has repaired the issue!

I will keep you posted. Thanks again for everyone's assistance!
