I am using a speedtouch 330 usb modem and with my firewall off, all non windows services stopped, no antivirus, no spyware, nothing i can think of that would block ports. Somehow ports are still
i just Bought cod5 over steam and the ports needed according to Activision, to play coop are blocked so i cant host coop games. these are "ports 28960 3074 for UDP and port 28960 for TCP".

I checked them on whatsmyip.org with my firewall on and they timed out, with it on they came back blocked.
I can join a coop, play mp games, other players just cant load or sync when i try host a coop and it eventually times out or they must exit there game.

I havent a clue how i can play at all if the ports are saying blocked.
My isp(BT) insists that they havent blocked these ports. Even allowed them remote access to confirm the problem and they didnt have a clue either.

I read an article here. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281336
sort of understood it, ran the netstat -ano command and checked the PID for cod5(6064 currently) to the ports listed after the ips, and found
TCP 81.155.204.120:52664 69.60.4.70:3074 ESTABLISHED 6064
UDP 0.0.0.0:3074 *:* 6064
UDP 0.0.0.0:28960 *:* 6064
Anyone have any ideas? is it Vista ? Im losing the plot over this one:eek:

Hi -

Are you sure there is no internal firewall (in Vista - not router) - maybe one that was a trial when system was new like Norton?

To double-check the UDP & TCP ports - download & SAVE SysInternals TCPView from Microsoft TechNet. Then right-click on desktop TCPView icon, run as admin.

http://live.sysinternals.com/Tcpview.exe

Also run a Vista System Health Report - it may hold clues
START | perfmon /report - 60 secs and viewer will appear.

Have you tried booting into Safemode w/Networking to see if any difference?

Thanks for help, i saved the tcp view while i was loading up to try host game.

I have a fresh(well fairly) install of vista and have only ever used windows firewall. Running mostly just what comes with vista like media player and IE7 along with gaming essentials like riva tuner, speedfan etc, everest is installed but not running at present, i also have utorrent and codec pack installed, apart from that its really just steam, xfire and games.

Correct me if im wrong, but does the tcp view indicate that im connecting on port 53742 to play on another server and that game is trying to connect using 28960 to host but *:* means that its not able to open the connection?

Ill try run in safe mode before my next post. Thanks for help, im determined to get to the bottom of this.

Also here is my performance monitor file, im not to sure how to read the data correctly.I was thinking the driver check may have faild as i havent loaded logitech g15 services/software.

Hi -

Not getting too far with either file right now. I'd like add'l info, please.

Follow THESE instructions. Attach resulting zips to next post.

I know you explained the problem, but I am not a gamer & don't quite follow what you are trying to do. Would you please tell me again in 1st grade language so that even I may have a chance to understand? I noticed presence of Punkbstr - how does this fit in here?

Hi,

Cheers again for your patience and time:smile:

Ive added the support folder(zip) like in the instructions.
It's only just over 1 mb , bat file seemed to work fine though.

Whats happenning is, i can play cod5 on other peoples servers fine is i can find one. From all the posts ive read most players can't even get there game to show up in the lobby( this seems to be conrolled by a master server).

I can get my Coop game to show up in lobby and people join almost instantly as everyone seems to be looking for a host rather than hosting a game themselves.
The problem is when the game loads its only me that loads into the game and all others(max 4 and ive limited pings to <100)just hang and it just says waiting, then the game fails to start as you need minimum of 2 players.

Could take hours to get a space on another host/game as players seem to be refreshing list and clicking on any free space that comes up, usually by time a list stops moving as its filling up and you manage to click on a space its full.

Its seems that im connecting on port 53742 fine to play on other servers but port 28960-28970(28960 on tcpview) seem to be the ones needed to host
a coop game. I also noticed what seemed to be a port "xbox" but ubisoft don't even know what this is even though they publish/support the game:laugh:

I thought it was a fault with the game at first but when i checked the port number on whatsmyip.org (with fw off) it comes back as closed.
This is why im guessing its a problem with the port itself.

Ive been onto the phone to my isp ( British Telecom) several times even managed to get hold of a support dept in uk(normally india, lol) and they keep on insisting that theres nothing at there end blocking it.

Its seems strange though that ive played/hosted mabey over 50 different games online and cod5 is the only one that seems to use ports that seem blocked.

Ubisoft(publisher) are blaming steam(who i downloaded game from) but that sounds like its just an excuse as they dont seem able to help.

According to other post ive read they slow down torrent traffic in some way though during peak times(6pm-12) which they deny also, so im not sure if the staff are mabey just unaware of the fact they would block certain ports.

The problem is i just dont know how to find out for sure where the port is being blocked.

Everyone keeps insisting its windows vista(even with firewall off).

I really looking for some way to find and prove who is at fault, whether its my isp, the game, or my own setup in vista.

To be honest if i cant find a solution i will be just as happy if i can prove its the game or my isp at fault.

My guess at this time is the isp but i dont know enough about vista or how the internet works to be sure.

Thanks again,

Colin

( I'll be away from pc for next week or so but ill try to login and check forum on mobile while away.)

Hi Colin -

I see system is < 2 months old - or was Vista re-installed on 2 Feb 2009? If re-install, why?

System BIOS appears to be dated July 2007. Are all of your drivers updated?

One report shows me you are connected to Internet via "PPP adapter Speedtouch Connection" and Ethernet disconnected, yet another shows me Ethernet connected and active. What do you use to connect to Internet?

hi again,

Just back from mountains(no phone/net receptoin).

I've just got email from steam(who i downloaded game from) and they just refunded it.

I had a new copy of vista as id added a faster 500gb hard disk, installed new vista, then HD just stopped working (BIOS stopped recognising it) and store just swapped it.

I had used a router at one point connected through LAN but caused me nothing but problems(lost connection randomly etc)

At one point i might have still had The virtual ethernet (usb, mobile phone) connection live i used while i transfered my BB.

I think theres only a few cod5 owners ever manage to setup a game with them as host, most probably cant cos of router/firewall.
If it worked for most users i would see lots of games with spaces(we all want a 0 ping if we can when we play, no lagg)

First evertime ive had a problem with a game that can't be solved after 10 years of online gaming. :4-dontkno
After reading so many posts about cod5 being the one of the most bugged games out i happy to see the back of it.

It could be my ISP whos lying to me about blocking ports needed as they seem to be same needed for dedicated server, they still claim they dont

Don't like giving up but i'm gonna develop a mental condition if i think about it anymore:laugh:

Thanks a lot for your help anyway:smile:

Hi -

No reception in the mountains? In thought that's where they put all the towers ?

I know you said 'enough' for a while, but . . .

Glad to hear about Steam. New Vista retail DVD? Which version? Those 10 or so you said have this working - what OS are they running? Any idea? Server 2008?

I wonder if Internet limitations placed by Vista are involved here. There are registry settings to change them. Vista Ultimate has more simultaneous connections than Home Premium, which is 2. 2 downloads at once for example. And you wanted people to directly connect to your system?

It can't be a restriction of the router/ ISP because you can have multiple systems on & have no slow-up. But if its all coming from 1 system - would it be somehow treated differently...?

Also, iPv6 now - is this a problem with the "Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface"
I have disabled portions of iPv6 after I saw that WMP (icon & all) along with MY system's IP at that time were on my router's main page. I was missing from that page. WMP network kicks in and loves to share your media files with others.

DHCPv6 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934541/en-us

Here is a MS KB showing you the Task Scheduler's appointment calendar. Alot going on in the background and during times of system idle activity -

I would really like to know if the others you mentioned are Vista SP1 and which version.
