Usually ZoneAlarm will pop up a little window asking if you want to allow the program to access the internet and you should be able to select a box for ZA to remember your choice next time.

If you right click on the ZA icon in the system tray and shutdown ZA can you get on the 'net?

Yes, that's true. It's adviseable to have firewall software and Zone Alarm is a good one - it's what I'm using.

What version do you have?

If you douibleclick on the icon in the system tray, and then go to overview there should be a product info section which tells you which version.

Ok, yours is later than mine, so I will assume it is the same. Open Zone Alarm. On the left, click on Program Control. Then on the upper right, select the Programs tab. Make sure Internet Explorer is listed and it has Green check on the access column for Trusted and Internet.

On the Main tab, mine is set to Medium - Programs must ask for internet access and server rights.

Component Control is in learning mode.
