Alright, I'll start from the beginning. A few days ago I bought the Beta version of a game called Minecraft, which uses Java to run. I downloaded it from the site, and played the game via a launcher from my desktop. It was running fine until earlier, when it started freezing as I was playing and showing me a black screen. To try and solve the problem, I removed and reinstalled Java. This didn't fix the problem. However, I can still play the game just fine if I use the "play in browser" option.

After I reinstalled Java I found that Youtube videos now only showed up as a black screen (they too, were working fine earlier). However, viewing the videos from another site seems to work. An example would be right off the Minecraft page: Minecraft which shows a video introducing you to the game.

Basically, I'm stuck with a game I just bought but can't play except in my browser, and I'm pretty sure I killed Youtube.

I don't believe the problem is Flash, as I uninstalled and reinstalled that again just now for good measure - no change to Youtube. If I go to a user's page on Youtube to view videos, the page loads for a brief moment before going mostly blank (not black, though the video stays black).

Any help with this would be much appreciated, as it's been driving me up a wall for a few hours now. If needed, I can provide screenshots of Youtube messing up.

Thanks,
Cole

UPDATE

I had to restart my computer because it froze (not uncommon for my computer), and now whenever I go to Youtube it freezes my computer, but in the second or two before that happens it seems like the videos are trying to load. My computer is basically crap, but it's never froze for Youtube like this before. Help?

Hi, welcome to TSF

What are your system specs, and do you have all the latest drivers, MS updates, SP3 and DirectX 9.0c installed?

Have you tried using another browser like Internet Explorer or Chrome?

I'm really sorry, this all sounds like jibbrish to me, but I'll do the best I can... System specs are under the general tab of system properties, right? Those would be Win XP Professional Version 2002, service pack 3. Intel Pentium Duel CPU, E2160 @ 1.80GHz, 1.79 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM, Physical address extension.

I'm not sure on the drivers, fairly sure I have all the MS updates, I don't know what SP3 is and DirectX should still be installed.

I don't have any other browsers, and my husband disabled IE and I'm not quite sure how to get it back.

I ended up restoring my computer to an earlier time, and now Youtube works fine without freezing, but Java on Minecraft won't load.

I'm really sorry for the trouble, I don't deal with computers much. I really appreciate the help though.
