Your opinions on this unusual MB problem....

Hi everyone!

I recently bought an ASUS P4S8X, which I accidently mounted to the case without the washers provided. The result was a shorted out my IDE devices (1 HD and 2 CD Drives). The MB itself and everything else attached to it was undamaged. So, I'm curious whether the IDE device damage was a result of my MB installation. I at no point even got them to power up. Not once.

So.....Any opinions? Is it some bizarre MB protection feature?

thanks in advance!

you said you didnt get the devices to power up at all...how did you find out they are fried ? Does anything power up at all ? ...some higher end cases come with a mobo tray that is coated with non-conductive anti-static material by a mfg...and also some cases have their whole insides coated with it as well...most of todays mobo's are more resilient to shorts and static...I did a test not to long ago with my older mobo outside the case....had the whole setup sitting on my desk with no ESD protection of any kind, humming away quite well... so recheck all the components and the mobo...you never know...:D
