Hey!
Ok, as the title suggests Im unable to get past the splash screen, everything goes black before it gets to the logon screen. Ive tried safe mode and I can get to the logon screen with that, except I can't use the mouse or keyboard! Ive enabled legacy support and Ive tried a PS/2 connection but to no avail.
I've tried booting from the backup BIOS aswell.
I booted from a Kaspersky rescue disk and ran a full virus sweep (which too over 10 hours!) Found no mallware
I've done a surface scan of the HD and used CHKDSK/r to repair an error.
Ive repaired the boot file and the MBR, also I've copied the userinit.exe file from my windows install disk to its home in system32, again no joy.:upset:
Im bereft of my senses at this stage!, Ive tried everything except a repair install, which I've been loath to do because I have programs installed that I can no longer find the disks for:sigh:

I really hope I'm missing something!

A repair install will not affect your data or applications . . but I would first run diagnostics on the hard drive ( click here )

I ran another HD diagnostic with the ESTool, no errors found.
Any idea as to why the mouse/keyboard won't function in safe mode?

Think I'm gonna do a repair install anyway!
