:4-dontkno Hello all,

My computer is pretty slow and I'm having some trouble with viruses. Norton AntiVirus can't repair or access a few different files. Can anyone help me? I pasted my info below. ANY help would be awesome!

these are the error messages I get from Norton:
c:\WINDOWS\urpair.exe Trojan horse
c:\WINDOWS\urpalrj.exe Access to file denied
c:\WINDOWS\luzcppn.exe Hacktool/Unable to repair.

My system is XP professional, version 2002, Service pack 2
It's a PC Intel (R), Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.40ghZ, 2.39 GHz, 448MB of Ram.

Here is my hijack this log:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido. If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/products/housecall_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the free online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. If any are not cleanable, copy and paste the infected files here. You may also use Panda ActiveScan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan. Post the log from the Panda scan here.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click 'Kill process' for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check):

C:\WINDOWS\urpalrj.exe
C:\WINDOWS\luzcppn.exe
c:\WINDOWS\urpair.exe

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

WhenUSave-or similar

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4006DCA3-433D-4FC8-AC36-42DA7797DCB7} - (no file)

Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.

C:\Program Files\Save
C:\WINDOWS\System32\irasufgi.dll
C:\WINDOWS\urpalrj.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\irasyncd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\luzcppn.exe
c:\WINDOWS\urpair.exe

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for Windows Overlay Components and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it back here.

Hello,

I finally did everything. NOthing was found on the various scans you had me do. I fixed and deleted the files from that list (some weren't there). Here is the result.txt that popped up after I ran the hijackthis analyzer: Thanks again.

Please do the above fix again, this time do not reboot to Safe Mode.

Before you begin the fix, however, do the following:

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for Windows Overlay Components and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Run HJT and go to Config > Misc Tools > Delete NT Service and type in Windows Overlay Components and click ok.

Now continue with bry's instructions.

When I run services.msc and click windows overlay components, it says that it's already disabled and stopping or starting is not an option. I will go through the instructions again though.

Okay...I did everything again. The result of the hijackthis analyzer is at the bottom. I wanted to let you know that I keep getting a ton of messages from both Norton and AVG that hacktools have been found and deleted, but it appears that there are a ton of these messages because everytime I click OK, another appears. I hit ok probably 30 times and they keep appearing. Also, all the virus scans have come up with nothing but when I ran AVG free, named three viruses but can do nothing about them:

Trojan horse Downloader.Generic.EKB (C:\WINDOWS\offun.exe)
Adware Generic.GOS (C:\Program Files\CMSystem\plugin.dll)
Adware Gereric.CCE (C:\WINDOWS\system32/nswC14.dll)

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.

Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT)

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible.
Please make sure system restore is enabled by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn OFF System Restore and make sure it’s NOT checked. We want system restore ON and monitoring your current hard drive. Once your clean we will turn this off and then back on to remove the infection from the restore folder and create a clean restore point.

Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.

*WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Open add/remove programs and remove CasClient/Casino Client if listed.

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://qus8l.hpwis.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://us.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ie...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://us.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ie...rch/search.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://qus8l.hpwis.com/
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CMSystem] "C:\Program Files\CMSystem\CMSystem.exe"
O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://qus8l.hpwis.com

C:\Program Files\CMSystem<--delete that folder

C:\WINDOWS\offun.exe<--delete that file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\nswC14.dll <--delete that file.

Run Ewido:
  • Click [Scanner]
  • Click [Complete System Scan] to begin scanning.
  • Click [OK] when prompted to clean files
  • With the first file it prompts to clean, select the option - "Perform action on all infections" - & choose clean and click [OK].
  • Once finished, click the [Save report] button
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
[X]Scan local drives for temporary files (Please uncheck this option)
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

Once back to normal windows....

Please run an online scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
Make sure you click the ”Free Online Virus Scan” in the upper right hand corner of the page under the Free use Activescan header.

We do NOT want the default spyXposer scan. Once it has finished save the activescan log. Then post that log in your next post along with the Ewido log and a new hijackthis log.

I forgot to mention that the available freespace on my C drive has gone from 74% to 45% since going through all of this stuff. I'm not sure if that is abnormal or what, but I thought it was weird.
Thanks again,
Cecilia

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cache32dsrf4535dfs <--delete that folder.

Let's look deeper into the system.....

Download WinPFInd http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/oldtimer/WinPFind.zip and extract it to your C:\ folder. This will create a folder called WinPFind in the C:\ folder.

Download Track qoo http://www.geekstogo.com/downloads/Trackqoo.zip
Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop. Unzip the Track qoo.vbs inside to your desktop. DO NOT run it yet!

Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.!

Inside C:\WinPFind is a file called WinPFind.exe. Double-click on this file to launch the program. Once it is launched, click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish. This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works as it can take a while, upwards to 30 minutes or more.! Once the Scan is Complete it will make a txt file (log) of what was found.

1. Go to the WinPFind folder
2. Locate WinPFind.txt
3. Please post those results in your next post!

REBOOT to normal mode.

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

So I need the following tool logs..

WinPFind.txt log
Track qoo.vbs log

C:\NSW2005.exe <--check the properties of that file and confirm it's from Norton System Works. The logs are clean. Is norton still detecting any virus/trojan?

What issues are you having?

Let's try one more tool....

Download Rkfiles.zip http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
UNZIP the contents to a permanent folder on your desktop.

REBOOT TO SAFE MODE… These tools MUST be run in safe mode!!

Once in safe mode…

Double click rkfiles.bat
It will scan for a while, so please be patient.
Wait till the dos window closes.
Open the C:\log.txt it created and post the contents here.

Hello~

My computer is running MUCH better than before. There are no pop-ups from Norton or anything. My internet is running a bit slow and, like I mentioned before, my c: available space is now at about 50% or so...and it was at 72%. Anyhow...here's that last log you asked me for. Thanks again (soooo much!).
~Cecilia

oh yeah...that file: C:\NSW2005.exe....I ran a search for it and two files came up. When I checked the properties of each, they are the same size but they have different dates of creation and modification. Also, the location of one is C:\, while the other is C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus.

Here's that log:

C:\Program Files\HJT\rkfiles

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FILES FOUND BY THIS METHOD ARE NOT BAD FILES, THERE MIGHT BE LEGIT FILES LISTED AND PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHILE FIXING. IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT IT IS LEAVE THEM ALONE.
Files Found in system Folder............
------------------------
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dfrg.msc: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAQAAAAAwGpEc213

Files Found in all users startup Folder............

C:\WINDOWS\tsc.exe: UPX!
C:\WINDOWS\vsapi32.dll: UPX!t4
