XP no connection to wireless adapter

1114 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  spunk.funk
I am using a Dynex Enhanced g wireless adapter to connect to virgin moble. All other computers work with the adapter except the one I rebuild. Started out with SP 1 then 2 and then 3. Go go on any. In my wireless adapter utility it see the connect to Virgin but will not connect. In Network connections it says it is not connected. I have tried.. not using the utility. setting wzc. reseting in the Ipconfig in which it said the unit is not connected . I am lost what to do next.

and welcome to the Forum

What security is the router using? ( WEP,WPA )?

Have you entered the security key?

Try disableing the security on the router and see if you can connect.

With the PC connected to the Modem/Router

Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

the security setting is a WPA TKIP
We connect to the net here using the Virginmoble mifi2200 b83, not sure how to unsecure it, I do feel that might be a solution?
Has this card ever worked with this router? Do you enter the passkey?
Yes this adapter worked for the PC before I put a new mobo and 2 80 G Hd's into it, Plus it works on this PC i am using now. We also have a laptop here that uses a Wifi connection and I checked the settings on it to make sure all were the same key in which they are. I ran Ipconfig/ all on this PC here that is using the same network and here's what I got.

BTW. I appreciate you taking time to help me figure this out. I build computers all the time but I suck at networking. It seems once I think I figured it out, something new comes my way and I bang my head against the wall trying to figure it out. LOL! Thanks for helping.

Joe J.
Just to be clear.

Are you using a third party utility to manage wireless networks or the windows one?

Sorry you kind of mention it in you OP but its just slightly unclear.
Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager, are there any yellow marks under Network Adapters or under USB is there an Unknown Device? If so, right click and Uninstall. Now right click any Device and choose Scan For Hardware Changes. That should start a new hardware wizard and it should reinstall the adapter. If there are no yellow marks, right click the Dynex Adapter and uninstall it. Then unplug the adapter. Restart the computer. When the computer fully boots, stick the adapter into the Back USB port, not the front, and it should start a new Hardware Wizard. Reinstall the driver from the CD.
