Hello Abdul,

Hope u had windows 7 as a factory installed one...
I tried to install windows XP in my laptop which had windows vista.The installation was done,but i cudnt get any drivers supporting my laptop for WIN XP.
So better chk with HP website for compatibility....

Heres the step on how you can install xp on pre installed win 7.
First.
On the Setup of your bios.
Choose the ATA instead of AHCI on the SATA configuration..
then now apply the changes. then insert your cd on the cd rom. make sure you have chosen the cd as your first boot device.Before you install 7 ,see if the drivers are available for xp

sorry that was meant to say,before you install xp,check to make sure the xp drivers are available

If this is a legal copy of XP with a legal key, we can try to help you.

Your laptop may not be able to run XP because there may not be the drivers you need for it. Looking on Compaq's website, it looks like none of the cq40 series have them. I didn't go through all of them, but enough to be pretty sure. I'd need to know your exact model to be able to be more specific.
