Hi all,

I'm a bit confused. Apparantly, XP's default folder for Windows Explorer should be 'My Documents', but on my laptop it's moved itself to C:\Documents and Settings\Miles\Start Menu. I've read the advice on http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307856 and applied the switches to the Windows Explorer shortcut properties (ie the shortcut that appears in Start/All Programs/Accessories), but if I right-click on Start then select Explore (or Open), I still get C:\Documents and Settings\Miles\Start Menu.

Is there a registry setting somewhere, or can anyone suggest any other solution? It's not vital to the future of the world or anything, but it IS extremely annoying!

Thats because you are telling windows to 'Explore' the start menu. Thats what happens when you RMB click any folder (try it).

There is nothing you can do to stop it starting that folder if launching Windows Explorer in this way.

An easier way is to use the 'Windows Key'+E to start Explorer.

If you go to start/ programs / accessories/ windows explorer and right click and choose properties.
does it say start in
%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%
What about target? Does it say
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe
?
If not, what does it say?

Does this open in my documents or elsewhere?

You can also go to start/ programs / accessories/ windows explorer
Right click on it and choose send to desktop/ create shortcut
(or just create shortcut which will put a shortcut to it right by the existing one labled windowsexplorer(2)
You can rename it later.
Right click and choose properties
Where it says target put in what you want to open in explorer.
Like want to explore My Music you can name it MusicExplorer and put in
C:\Documents and Settings\Your account name here\My Documents\My Music

In fact, just locate any folder or location in an open instance of explorer, copy the address and paste it into a new shortcut target to get a desktop or startmenu explorer for that drive/ folder etc.
