I set up a dialup account and saved password. Once set up, XP seems to double the length of my password. It seems like it duplicates my password either in front of or behind what I had saved. The dialup account that I started with accepts this but the one I am switching to won't.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Thanks

as far as im aware, xp and 2k both mask the password by making it look much longer than it really is. ( i get at least 20 people ask me this every day at work )

ive never seen it pose a problem.

If you are actually having authentication trouble with the dialup, i would look elsewhere, as i doubt this is what is causing it.

its for security reasons, the password is not changes just the visual representation of it.

Its called salting and stretching. (really)

Its so an observer does not know the length of the password, so the probability of brute forcing it is decreased greatly.
