I lost my retail microsoft cd in a move and was wondering where i might find a new one or if there is one that i can download and burn to a new cd. I have a valid key that hasnt been used before and would like to use it without having to buy a new cd/key package. all help is greatly appreciated.

You might be able to purchase a replacement CD from Microsoft under their service for replacing damaged CDs.

See bottom of page here:-

Or another option could be to purchase (or search for something free on the net) software such as Acronis and make an image of your current drive:-

You might find an older version of Acronis, or something similar, given as a freebie with a computer mag.

If your current installation is not too good, you could borrow an XP CD and use your key to make the installation, and then make an image as a stand-by copy.

If you try to copy a Windows CD, I suspect you will run into copyright issues.
