XP black screen & can't boot from CD!

Hi, my machine got attacked by a virus and now I get the black screen when booting. Have tried safe mode but that doesn't work, gets stuck on \system32\drivers\isapnp.sys. Then tried to booting from cd, after it says 'press any key to boot from cd', I do and it comes up with 'setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration...' and then after a while it pops up 'ntdetect failed' and tries to reboot normally and i get the black screen again! Can anyone help or is it really screwed?

I'll bet it's a startup process that the virus installed in the registry. I've encountered this same problem recently. You could try using a Bit Defender rescue CD (Google it), but first I'd inspect the registry and specific folders in typical areas when viruses meddle with the startup process using a Bart PE CD. If you're a novice then manually sifting through the registry and folders with a Bart PE CD is probably asking way too much; Try creating a Bit Defender rescue CD instead.
That's great, thanks a lot! I ran the bitdefender, had an issue because I couldn't create a cd but created it on USB flash drive and booted from that. It found 2 infections and deleted them but I still have the same issue on normal boot! Is there some other bitdefender utilities that I should run, maybe against the registry.
