I will be purchasing xp home edition and was wondering if, when I get my new pc next year, if I will have to re-activate my windows xp. Also if I do a major upgrade, will this affect my activation. I have been using the same 98 program for years and it has seen several computers. I am not sure how this xp activation process works. Will I be able to use the same operating system every time I get a new pc?

like johnwill said you will have to reactivate it again. when I bought my new PC and transfered my xp home over to it I got a message that my key was already in use, so I had to call a 1-800 it gave me. just tell them the deal and they will give you a number to punch in, pretty quick and painless.

heard the database gets dumped every 120 days....as in if you activate it...122 days later you can activate it again...6 months after I first installed XP I did a MB, processor, on-board nic swap and I didn't get prompted to re-activate
