Xonar or X-Fi?

I’ve been checking out ASUS Xonar D2X recently, kinda fantasized by it’s MIDI I/O and input S/N ratio for recording (I’m sort of a songwriter). But I’m a little concerned about Xonar’s gaming ability, should I just go for a X-Fi and all it’s EAX5.0 stuff? How does that compared to Xonar’s DS3D GX? I’m new to 3D games but I’d really like to enjoy them.

BTW, I’m using both Vista and XP (dual OS)

i got the Auzentech 7.1 Prelude which uses the X-Fi chips, it has a very slightly better SNR and THD than the Xonar, just connected it with Logitech Z5500 speakers and now this is a great setup...

Auzentech did the X-Fi chips more justice than Creative did which is bad since they make it lol

Check it out as a sound card if you like your audio
