Hi,

How would i uninstall xinetd and then reinstall it? Can someone help me. Every time I try to start a service associated with it it say I have to enable xinetd. I tried stopping xinetd and then starting it to no avail. I tried doing this for echo and telnet.

I've also used the following commands chkconfig xinetd on,
chkconfig telnet on,/etc/inet.d/xinetd restart to know avail as well.

First you need to locate what the xinetd package name is thats installed. You do this by doing the following from the command line.

cd /var/log
grep xinetd rpmpkgs

it should give you the full name of the installed package

second

rpm --uninstall <package name>

then to reinstall the package you need to mount your CD or run "up2date" and do

irpm --install <packagename>
