I have WORD 2000 and everytime I try to save a document using "save as" to a new location or a new doc name, it defaults to saving it as a DOT (template) and gives me no other choices (doc type "template" is grayed out).

Even if I save the document with a .doc or .rtf extension it appends .dot after this. How can I stop this default and regain the save as choices?

any ideas?

Are you running 98SE or is the new OS XP? Make sure you have all the updates for Windows and for Office. If it is 98SE- maybe it is an incompatability issue with udates to Office or security issue updates with the OS?

Would still suggest to try un-install and get all updates and then re-install.
