My mom needs a new laptop. All she needs is: Word Processing, MSN Messenger, Surfing, and Viewing Pics...

Is Mac the way to go? She has used Mac before, not a whole lot, so she's kinda scared because of that. I've heard that Mac's are easier to get the hang of if you aren't familiar to their OS, even easier than PCs.

I'm just concerned that she won't be having any problems with it because I'm in college and the tech guy from work has been telling her that he won't be able to help her because he knows nothing about Mac's.

I'd like to hear you guys' feedback.. these are the specs of what I plan on getting:

MacBook / 13" Screen / 1.83Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo / 2X512 RAM / 60GB HD / DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo

that is fine for what she needs. and after setting it up, she should never need to see a tech guy. but if there are problems, you can always come here, and we can give detailed instructions if its something we can figure out. i use my mac for everything but gaming, and have never had any issues. its great for surfing because most web based attacks don't effect a mac.

If you are open minded about the idea that there are slightly different ways of doing the same things, then you will have no problems at all in using the Mac.

Mac OS and how Applications are integrated/installed is different - a better.

Otherwise, most applications run in a very similar manner.

Internet browsers - you may want to load up Firefox in addition to using the standard browser that comes with Macs - Safari.
