Word 2002: Circling number on form

I teach at a community college and use rubric forms created in Word for grading. The forms are e-mailed to me. Each criteria has a scale of something like "1 2 3 4 5", which I normally circle the appropriate score by hand and then physically return the form to the student. Is there a way within Word to easily circle the appropriate scores and then e-mail the form back to the student? I envision using a hot-key to do this. Maybe there is an even easier method. Your help will be appreciated!
