Hello all,

I was using an up to date windows xp on my desktop and I then decided to format it, I put in the cd and installed over the existing windows which meant I had to format the c: drive. I installed windows XP sp1 with no problems and proceeded to install the wireless wg111v3 netgear usb adapter.
First it told me I had to update xp, it gave me a HOT FIX number which I downloaded from another pc and installed with no problems.
Now I just followed the instructions on the cd and Installed the adapter, again with no problems.

Here is the problem, the Netgear software will try and connect me to the wireless network (correct password/key used) and as it is aquiring network address, it straight away disconnects me and it just keeps doing this over and over, weather it is controlled by windows or the Netgear aplication I get the same result. Then I tried and update windows and I now have sp 3 and it is still the same. I can not use a cable for this PC so I need the wireless I do have a laptop which is using the same router (netgear) and it is working fine, so from this laptop I can update windows if that is what is needed.

If any one can help me with this it is much apreciated, because this problem is driving me spare.

Cheers.

Thanks for your help johnwill, but after i wrote this thread i got a bit pissed off with the whole thing tried loads of stuff and (i guess it was a silly solution) I eventually reset the router to factory settings and the whole thing works fine now, seams like the router was thinking that the ip address was already in use ergo the computer could not logg in with an existing ip. I just did not want to reset the router before because I have now lost my settings, but anyway at least it works cheers. :)
