I am having a similar problem but my wireless was working for some time and suddenly stopped. I have tried many different ways to try and fix this problem. Enabled/ disabled the network adapter as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the newest driver, restarted the comp, restored to the earliest restore point, removed all ghosted forms of usb devices (these apparently show up if you dont always use the safely remove hardware) i have checked in device manager-all network devices are installed up to date and have no icons beside them, i can access the internet from the laptop and from my ipod with the same settings that i have on the desktop but the desktop wont connect. I have used the trouble shooter to no avail, my desktop can see that connections are available but it just wont bloodly connect. I have tried this :
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista/Windows 7.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

The first command say sucessfully reset winsock catalog the second command says reset global ok reset interface ok reset unicast ok reset route ok but the last command says Theres no user specified settings to be reset. I have installed the wifiinspector prog and here is a ss of that:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
The wireless im using is my neighbours and he has given me the password, there are no other problems with any other comps that use this connection but mine. Please help..... At my wits end and wondering if i should just reinstall the operating system... Other points: os windows 7 home premium 32 bit, quad core amd, 4 gigs ram....

Are you able to connect on a direct connection to your router?

Do you have any Anti-Virus or Security software installed? Norton, McAfee or similar?

For now, try removing your network encryption and see if you're able to connect.

To begin with thanks for taking the time to make my own personal thread. As to the direct connection no i cannot connect directly, the router is in my neighbours house. I have his consent to use his connection and have confirmed that no changes have been made recently and he has power cycled the router for me since this problem has started. As far as av is concerned as soon as i had this problem i uninstalled it to see if an update had caused this and no that didnt help either. I guess maybe ill ask him if he could remove the encryption to see if i can connect... any other advice?

Unfortunately, we won't be able to assist you with your concern.

ISP forbid sharing Internet connection with or without your neighbors consent. It's best for you to have your own broadband subscription.

A good reading about this can be found in our Forum Rules.

This Thread will now be Closed.
