This looks like a old post. But am facing a similar problem.
Two laptops are in the LAN. Both of them are able to access the internet. But when i try to ping each other, it doesnt work.
1. Firewall is disabled on both of the laptops
2. If i use wireshark, it shows ARP request of the destination ip going out, but no response (Actually, the ARP request doesnt reach the destination node). So, where is the ARP broadcast request sent from the originator going ?
Any inputs would be helpful

hmm.. strangely it is working now. I dont remember doing anything (except i slept off for 6 hrs and got up). The LAN structure is simple:
-> 2 Laptops connected to the router using wifi
And since ARP is a broadcast message, am assuming the packet would reach the other laptop without passing through router ? (Correct me if it is not the case in case of wireless networks).

So, what could have been the problem ?
