So, i've had some trouble with my computer, specifically my Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 and my Realtek High Definition Audio card. It started about a month ago. I got the "blue screen of death" as it is famously know and it started to dump my virtual memory. I thought it might've just been overheating of my laptop so i restarted after it was done. When I restarted my computer, i got a "Security Center has Stopped working" and it goes on about reporting to microsoft but i never got a solution. Whenever this message appeared, my sound would disable, and i'd have to re-enable it and this would happen 2-4 times. So, i went to my security center and it was turned off and when i tried to turn it on, i get the same message and my sound would disable again! After weeks of talking to friends who do troubleshooting for a living, no solution was found. All i was left with was either uninstall trend and reinstall hoping that it would fix this problem, OR , reset my computer to manufacture settings which i was not a big fan of.... at the time.
I've got a Sony Vaio VGN-FW138E laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium.
So, i uninstalled trend, reinstalled it, and alas, i didn't get the "Security Center has stopped working" and my sound didn't disable. I was like, well, seems it wasn't anything big after all, but low and behold, I couldn't connect to the itnernet! Usually it's just my router/modem that needs a quick reboot, but no. I'd get a "reset wireless network 'blah'", or the modem or try connecting to a different network, but this time was the first time i got this message and i actually freaked out.
Gave me 3 reasons/options as to why i can't connect:
1) "Marvell Yukon 88E8055 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller" is experiancing driver or hardware related issues,
2) Make sure your "Internet Protocal Bindings" are correct.
Ensure that "Version 4(TVCP/IPv4) and Version 6(TCP/IPv6)" are selected in the configuration for the network adapter "Local Area Network" , and
3) The network adapter "Atheros AP928x Wireless Network Adapter" is experiancing driver or hardware related issues.
Well, i'm not troubleshooting expert so to me this is plain giberish. I know that it's saying my adapters might be experiancing trouble, but i don't know what to do about it or how to even fix it. As for #2, all i have to say is WHAT?
I'm sending this from my brothers computer so i know that it is not my wireless router/Modem. I've tried rebooting my laptop, but to no avail. I'm considering taking it to Geek Squad at Best Buy where i purchased my laptop so they can take a look at it as i explain the issue and see if they can fix it. That's if, no one can find a solution to the problem here.
Please, any help would be REALLY appreciated. I'm desperate T_T
