I have a Windows Server 2000 that's been running fine for about 2 years. Last night, shortly after it ran a Windows update and downloaded (but did not install) some updates, something caused Winsock to stop performing properly. As such, I can no longer connect to the internet through the desktop or applications that run through Winsock, but the server is available and reponds to other TCP/IP traffic fine.

I tried running a Winsock fix program, hoping that it was just a corrupted registry, but it didn't help. I can't identify anything in particular that was done, but I know that the problem occurred sometime between 2:00am and 6:00am, when noone was accessing or using the server.

Any ideas how I should troubleshoot?:4-dontkno

what is the event viewer saying? is there anything that indicates what is going wrong?
I don't think downloading updates and not installing them could ever cause winsock problems. If you installed part of the downloaded updates, try uninstalling them.

any error messages you get, post them, it will help people to help you troubleshoot your problem. Try to be exact and complete. If there are any events that indicate a problem, any popups giving you an error, messages in log files, ... the more information you give, the better you can be helped
