Winfixer Issue I believe??

Hello & thank you in advance for any help.. I believe this is a winfixer issue because those are the pop up's I'm getting. Ran, ad-aware SE, spybot S&D, spysubtract norton & Mcafee.. Checked add & remove programs and found nothing there. I have Zone Alarm installed & Windows firewall on. All windows updates. But Yup you guessed it.. It's till here.. Clueless now.. :4-dontkno Would greatly appreciate any help. Here is my Hijackthis log. Sorry it's so long.. Thank u again...

P.S., In the mean time...

You are running Hijack This from a folder in the Desktop It needs to be in a permanent folder. Please go into Windows Explorer, click on C:\ then click on File > New > Folder and call it HJT , or another name of your choice. The program creates backup files that we may need to use later.

Next, please post a new HJT log with full headers (Date/Time/System Info etc.) at the top.

Hello, luvukram. Thank you for being patient while I reviewed your log!

Important: Copy this page into Notepad & save it. You should also print a copy of these instructions for use during the fix.

Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order they are presented. If there is anything that you don't understand, ask me about it before proceeding with the fixes. It is important to close all browsers (Internet Explorer, My Computer, etc.) or windows when you are running any scans, tools, or HJT.



  1. Enable the viewing of hidden files/folders:

    Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > “View” tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible too.


  2. Downloads:

    Please download CleanUp!
    The Temp folders are a popular place for malware to hide out, plus installation programs tend to leave a lot of junk in there. Download and install CleanUp! to clean out your temps, but do not run it yet.

    Next,download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
    • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
    • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.


  3. Disable Interfering Applications:
    Some security applications can prevent the removal of certain HJT entries. Please temporarily disable the following programs during the fix. You may re-enable them when your log is clean.

    McAfee


  4. VundoFix

  5. Reboot back into Safe Mode.
    Restart the computer. While it’s booting up, tap the F8 key until a numbered menu appears. Choose “Safe Mode”, press Enter, and Windows will continue to load.


  6. Run VundoFix Again
    • (In Safe Mode), Open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
    • You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
      it should look like this

      Please seek assistance at one of the following forums:

    • At this point press enter one time.
    • Next you will see:
      Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
      Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

    • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
      • C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhe.dll
    • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
    • Next you will see:
      Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
      Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
      Click to expand...
    • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
      • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ehhkj.*
    • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
    • The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
    • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

      • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00DBDAC8-4691-4797-8E6A-7C6AB89BC441} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhe.dll
        O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhhe - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\jkhhe.dll

    • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
    • Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
    • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.


  7. File Deletions:
    Delete the following FILES indicated in RED if they still exist. You shouldn’t see them, but please check anyway.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhe.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebyx.dll


  8. Run Cleanup!
    Configure the program as follows:
    1. Click Options...
    2. Move the arrow down to Custom CleanUp!
    3. Put a check next to the following:
      • Empty Recycle Bins
      • Delete Cookies
      • Delete Prefetch files
      • [X]Scan local drives for temporary files (Please uncheck this option)
      • Cleanup! All Users
    4. Click OK
    5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
    6. It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.
    * CleanUp! will delete all the files in your temp folders without making a backup! If you have a 64 bit Operating System do NOT run CleanUp. Let me know and we will use another utility.



  9. Online Scan:

    Please run an online virus at Panda ActiveScan. Be sure to save the report at the end so you can post it here.



Please post the following items in your next reply:
  1. Fresh HJT log (with full headers)
  2. Results of the Panda scan
  3. The vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder

Thank you SO much.. I am going to back up some things of mine before I do this. Probably this weekend. (I'm a little afraid I'll mess up.. and have to restore my PC.. Self doubt..) But I'll get it.. I printed out your instructions and I will follow them step by step. Then will return here and post a new log file. Thank you again. It's a very great thing your doing here helping people.. It's much appreciated!

PS: Had one question. I want yahoo to stay as my search engine. Deleting what you mentioned, will that change my search? I also did move my hijackthis into the place u mentioned. :sayyes:

Hello. I've subscribed to this thread, so I will be notified when you've made a reply. So take your time working through the fixes. I think backing up is a great idea, just remember that when you back up your data the infection will go with it. So once you're certain you're clean, you will want to make another backup of the clean system on separate media. Then to avoid possible reinfection, delete the first backup. Good luck! :grin:

Well.. I can't do anything in safe mode? :4-dontkno Just blinks off on me.. I tried about 20 times.. Didn't know where to go from here so I haven't tried anything else.. I'll attach a new HJT log ... Maybe you'll know what is the problem..? Thank you again... Very much..

Oh and I did the ctrl/alt delete thing in safe mode and this "winlogon.exe" was running in safe mode.. That's about as far as my knowledge goes. lol!

Suzie,

I've seen others with this infection that were unable to boot into safe mode. So go ahead & try this fix in normal mode.

Can you please explain why you decided to leave the red.clientapps entries? (You called them Yahoo)

  1. Ok, first of all congratulations, you got rid of both Vundo infections! :4-clap:

  2. Are you still having problems booting into safe mode?

  3. The 2 items that Panda found are okay to be left alone.
    • The first is a registry entry left over from Vundo. We've already deleted all the files it uses to 'do its thing', so they're just stray bits with no bite.
    • The second is an infection left in a HJT backup. It's not hurting anything being there, since none of those files are in use. Plus once you're certain that the fixes we've run have caused no problem & you won't need to use the backups, you're free to just delete it.


  4. Next, the "Yahoo" items. Yahoo sometimes installs it's own hijacker. Some of the R1/R0 entries in your log, have the "red.clientapps" path. This is a search page hijacker & oftentimes hijacks you to sites that stealth install RedSheriff, (which monitors which websites you visit & reports back to it's "home". Visit This Site for more.) I myself don't take kindly to a company telling my browser where to go & then reporting what I'm doing, so I always recommend removal. Removing the items I've recommended will in no way impair your ability to use Yahoo. As a matter of fact I've left the following Yahoo entries because they are safe & add functionality:
