i play an online game and until recently i couldn't get wine to run it.

somehow i finally did manage it, but i have the weirdest issues with it now, the screen doesn't move as on peice anymore. when i walk half the screen will move, and then the other half either moves a moment later, or sometimes doesn't move at all.

is there a way to make wine work better?

i have no idea what info to include, but just ask, and i will provide any further info you need.

i am really hating to have to use a windows install just to play the game.

99% of the time you will need Windows to run the game. And on the off chance you do get it running on Linux it'll be shaky. You'll get mush better luck with older games but the newer they are the less your chances of making them run.

If your a gamer your gonna have to live with Windows.

the game is darkages.

the thing is, the requirements for the game are very very low, as it hasn't undergone any serious code changes in the entire 6 years it's been out.

(as listed on darkages.com)
Win95/98/2000/ME/XP
Pentium MMX 200Mhz or higher
64MB RAM
8MB video memory
200MB space needed
DirectX 7.0a
28K Modem
US Keyboard driver
standard mouse
Internet connection
Web browser released after 1998

i am running mandrake 10, and i installed the newest wine packages i could find.

i have ran this game with a machine that was far far under the requirements, and it ran fine.

90 mhz p1
16 megs ram
2 meg video
windows 95
directx 5?

so, if i'm trying to run it on a 1900+ with a gig of ram, and a 128 meg vid card, why is wine beating the performance into the ground so hard?

i did however notice that i wasn't able to play it until i turned dxgrab on.

what exactly does dxgrab do, and how would i make sure it's "grabbing" the right version of dx?
