Windows XP will not recognize standard USD device

1993 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  bastion3
Since some time I have an annoying problem:
Standard USB-devices ara not recognized. There where in the past an USB device was recognized e.g. my camera or my external drive, Windows says it has detected new hardware and wants to install.
If I tell windows to install, it will not find the driver software. I have no idea where to look for a solution.

Has anybody a suggestion. Thanks

have you tried telling it where your drivers are?! easier way..rather than trusting it to look?
If you go to the device manager (start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager), are there any red or yellow marks in that area? Scroll down to the USB area in the device manager and see if there are any words called "Enhanced," and if so, right click and select "update drivers." It is not necessary to let it search the internet if you have SP2 installed. If you don't have SP2 installed, then do so.
Some devices you need to attach after installing driver or when it prompts you to connect device...
So try to insert CD or USB or whatever you have and install software and driver first, and then, when it prompts you, attach device and continue with installation...
I think I made a good point because you said it can not find the driver software. I think you should do as I said above...
Hope this will help you mate...
Thank you for your reply, I don't know where the USB drivers are located ot what the file name is

Hello
I have Windows XP SP2.
It seems te be a difficult problem
Hans
THe problem is that there is no specific software. If I connect my camera to my wife's computer it is no problem.
