Formatted my Amilo Pr v3515 laptop as Windows 7 was giving me some problems. I used a windows xp disc , deleted the partitons , formated and started install. During the install it failed to install driver.cab , nikedrv.sys , riodrv.sys and a few more . I know the cd is good as I used to to format and install windows on another pc and there were no issues.

Now I have looked online and found some people had the same problem and said it might be due to hard disk error or something to do with ram, but I don't understand why I should have a problem with my hardware seen as it was working fine before I formatted it.
I also tried installing Linux Ubuntu 10.10 of a USB stick and that didn't work as it had problem copying files....

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks a lot

I can't see why Ubuntu failed , and now suddenly works but windows still won't :(

Failure to copy files is indication of a hardware problem. Either your PSU or your HDD. If you want to install XP, then I would download the ISO image for Seatools for DOS burn the image with IMGBurn boot off of the newly created CD and run the tests. This will fix any bad sectors on the drive so XP can install.

Hi Fin,

Just a thought: CD/DVD drives can have problems reading a good disk at any point in the read. Linux disk probably has much less data to read than XP. It may not be getting to the bad area with Linux. Maybe!

Good Luck, Jim
