Hi there everyone. This is my first time using a forum for support, I really hope this is going to work.
I have a JVC Everio camcorder (GZ-MG37U). I have a bunch of family videos on the computer (*.MOD file format). Usually, I can access these with Windows Media Player for playback and Nero 7 for editing. Weeks ago, I encrypted those files (using the WinXP encryption, right-click then advanced, etc.), to make sure they wouldn't get deleted or anything. However, now, I can't even play them back.
If I do try to play them back I get the error message "WMP cannot access the file. Might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct".
I have tried for 2 days different ways to access the files. I can't even copy them!!! They can't be scanned with my antivirus software (Avats4), they can be burned on a DVD or CD, but I can't play them back from the CD or DVD.
I've tried decrypting them, it doesn't work. (An error occurred applying attributes to the file... Access is denied). I've tried adding a user in the encryption (error in adding new user, error code 5).
I've tried contacting Microsoft, and no help available there.
Please, PLEASE, I NEED HELP. These are invaluable videos of my new born son and wedding... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
