After installing new RAM the computer will either get stuck on a "starting windows" screen or give me a BSOD with different errors such as "irql not less or equal". Now I'm trying to figure out if the RAM is incompatible with the motherboard. This is the ram I'm trying to use and the computer is an HP 8100 Elite Small Form Factor Business PC. The manual lists the RAM requirements as:
  • unbuffered non-ECC PC3-8500 DDR3-1066 MHz-compliant or PC3-10600 DDR3-1333 MHz-compliant
  • unbuffered ECC PC3-10600 DDR3-1333 MHz-compliant (Z200 SFF only)
  • 1.5 volt DDR3-SDRAM DIMMs
  • support CAS latency 7 DDR3 1066 MHz (7-7-7 timing) and CAS latency 9 DDR3 1333 MHz (9-9-9timing)
The computer is running windows 7 x64
Core i5 650 / 3.2 GHz
4 GB DDR3 SDRAM PC3-10600 (1333MHz) non ECC (1 x 4 GB)

What capacity are you trying to reach? You started with 4GB with 1 RAM module?

Code:
How much memory does the HP Compaq 8100 Elite CMT/SFF Computer take?
You can upgrade your HP Compaq 8100 Elite CMT/SFF Computer to up to a maximum memory capacity of 16GB Memory.

How many total memory slots to install memory?
The Computer has 4 Slots to install memory, already with 4GB (Removable) standard memory installed. For best Compaq 8100 Elite CMT/SFF Computer performance use the maximum amount of 16GB, fill all the slots with the max allowed memory per slot for your Computer.

I want to have 8GB total, I started with four 1GB modules and tried to replace them with this 2x4GB kit.

I would go here it will tell you what memory you need and how much you can use
Thanks, it's recommended an 8GB kit which looks esentially the same as the Kingston one I tried which makes me think it should have worked.
