For some reason i pulled out my power supply last night, I ended up not doing what i was going to do so i put it back in. Now i am getting a error: disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter. Talked with two HP online helpers or whatever, but nothing has been resolved. When i try to use windows repair i click on computer and it only shows one drive that is 32MB, my hard drive dosnt even show up. I thinking maybe i missed a cable or something but iv checked and cant find anything :S. Ugh i dont know what to do.

Computer: compaq presario sr2000

Can you get into System Repair?

If so, try this from the Command Prompt there:
CHKDSK /R
Run CHKDSK /R from an elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt.
When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter. Then reboot and let the test run. It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors.

Then try a free bootable hard drive diagnostic to ensure that the hard drive isn't damaged: http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html

"The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.
Windows cannot run dusk checking on this volume because it is write protected."
I went thru system restore/ Command prompt.

I moved this computer into a different room, before that it worked fine. They only thing i have added was a wireless logitech mouse, not sure if that matters.

Start up repair problem details:
Problem event name: StartuprepairV2
Problem Signature 01: externalmedia
Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6000.16386.0.0.0.0
Problem Signature 03: 0
Problem Signature 04: 65537
Problem Signature 05: unknown
Problem Signature 06: NoHardDrive

Also i unpluged the hard drive and started it up and it has the same error as if it were plugged in

I have an older HD that came in my windows ME, but the only open cable is the slave, can you run a main HD from the slave cable? (other HD is Sata)

To run a drive as master (with IDE, anyway), it has to be connected to a master cable and the jumpers must be set correctly. You can make the "master" drive that you wish to test into a slave by moving the jumper according to instructions on the drive itself. Sometimes it's a sticker, others it's imprinted on the drive. Once you do that, you should be able to connect it as a slave and run the diagnostic test.

Let us know if you need more clarification. Good luck.

Double check your cable connections. Loose connections cause problems. Also, after this, go into your bios and see if your correct disk is showing up in the list and marked as your first boot device in the boot sequence.
