I am trying to update my Windows XP Home edition to SP2, but when clicking the "Windows Update" icon, I get this page cannot be displayed in my browser.

I also tried going to the website and updating it that way, but the same thing happens when I click the link to update.

Please help! I need to update Windows. :sayyes:

Check out this link

Delete Cookies, Delete Files and Clear History in Tools, Internet Options, General tab. (Deleting Cookies may delete some stored Internet passwords.) Check the Delete all off-line content checkbox.

Can you visit other secure sites?

Have you ever successfully used Windows Update site? Are you using a legal copy of XP?

Check the Windows Update Checklist.

If that doesn't work, then download the following .bat file that I put together after searching for a few ways to repair Windows Update. You can view the file in notepad if you wish. It should re-register the dll files that are associated with Windows Update in case yours were corrupted. Just save the file to your desktop and double-click it.

fixupdate.bat

After you run it, check to see if Windows Update works.
