Really need to know what you've already done so we don't just duplicate.

It shows you are not connected to the wireless router.
Power Cycle your Router (ie) unplug the power cord, wait 15 seconds and then plug it back in. While waiting for it to fully bootup, restart your laptop.
In about 5 minutes, you should see your Wireless Network in the Wireless Networks Available icon in the lower right by the clock. Select that and choose Connect, type in your WiFi pass phrase.
If that fails, go to Start/Search and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. In Network Connections, right click your WiFi adapter and choose Diagnose.

I rebooted my modem
I downloaded device driver for the netword card but it did not accept it. It says the existing driver is up to date
I turned on network discovery
I used network troubleshooter

What did it say when you ran Diagnose?
Do you have any other devices that connect to your WiFi Router? Is your Modem and Router one combo device or are they separate? If Power Cycling, you have to unplug both devices if not a combo.
Download WiFi Inspector and post a Screenshot of the signal strength of your network and the other WiFi networks in your area.

I used an ethernet cable and was able to connect to internet. So I ran the network diagnostics again and the system discovered the network card needed a driver update. So I let it search online and install the driver update and the problem was solved
