I have two desktops, one is a e machines 6410. Been having issues with this thing the past 2 months, and have had to do a full system restore 4 times. Each time wiping out all data only to work for about a week or two. Either it would not boot out of windows (stays spinning at the logo), or loops endlessly, and Safe Mode does nothing to help.

Well I may have stumbled on the problem. Today I had my son switch the Lexmark printer that was on the 6410 to his old Dell Dimension 4400 since the 6410 seemed to be a dead cause. Well, when he went to boot it, guess what. It now loads the logo then goes to a black screen for about 20 minutes, then his desktop images for 20 minutes, then the icons load after another 20 minutes. A total of 60 minutes to become functional.

Anybody have any suggestion how to get the 4400 working? I recovered the Emachines again and we will see how it does without the printer. Works fine now but it usually does for a week or so. (CHKDSK checks out okay by the way).

Now, how do I fix the 4400 and not have to wait an hour for my PC to boot?

First, go to start > run and type "msconfig" without quotes. Go to the startup tab. If you have a lot of programs checked here this could explain slow load times, but only to a degree. You can uncheck unnecessary programs here, but don't reboot immediately once done, just for the sake of time.

Go to start > run and type "eventvwr.msc" w/o quotes. Look in Application and System for any Warning or Error events and post their info back here.

Had an awful lot checked on startup.

and a few errors:

Most Common (A lot that just started after we hooked up that printer):

Source: Disk

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\D.

Then a few:

I've restored the Emachines 4 times, right now it is running fine. The Dell is the one that is now taking an hour to load. I'm convinced that it has something to do with moving the printer from the e machine to the dell. I think the printer may have been causing issues with the emachine. I have not restired the Dell, would like to avoid that. Also, don't want to wait an hour for it to load. Seems fine after it loads.

Is it hooked up to it with a removable adapter? If yes, remove the adapter. If it is a built in adapter, try unplugging your router. Having it disconnected from the network will help try and troubleshoot that second error you were getting in event viewer. That's probably not the issue, but there's always a small chance it might be.

Here's the entire error. It happens about 15 times. I assume this is the slowness in the boot.
