Hi

Recently I found (ctfmon.exe) in the startup. I unchecked the button but it tries to install in the startup. Is this one of the good guys?

Any help please?

Thanks

It is normally associated with m$ office, it is the speech component, you can remove it by going to the add\remove programmes section.
When launched scroll down to office and highlight it, click on change and it's install window will come up.

Once in there you want to add\remove features from memory, select custom install, then check the bow at the bottom, can't recall the wording offhand but there is only the 1 box so check it and select next\continue.

Now you will see a list of the components if I remember right, scroll down and expand the box for shared office features (or something like that), the expand alternate user input, in the expand the speech component and click on it, you should see a list of options, select not available on this computer, now OK\next everything until finished and close the windows when complete, that should stop it if it was coming from there, hope it helps.
After I installed IE7 is when I noticed it on my Taskbar(Language bar).
Plus after removing it ctfmon.exe was still running in the Task Manager.
Searched google and found out how to stop it for good.

To close the Language bar (using Classic view in Control Panel):
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional and Language Options.
2. On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details.
3. Under Preferences, click Language Bar.
4. Deselect the Show the Language bar on the desktop check box.
5. Advanced tab, under System Configuration select
"Turn off advanced text services" >
Apply/Ok / Apply/Ok > Might need to Restart.
The 5th step is what stopped ctfmon.exe from running in the Task Manager for me.

Thanks for letting us know tlaz..

May we know what actually stopped it?

BTW just FYI, its a process so it won't be installing but will run at startup, and its not unsecure either.

Hi Kalim

Actually, I think I did the no no:embarased . I had run the HijackThis and clicked the 'fix' for the 'system32\ctfmon.exe' which caused the process to be deleted. I hope I have not done any major harm.

It doesn't matter, its just been removed from starting up. Sooner or later it'll pop back up that way, esp. once you start Office.
