Hi,


Every time i switch my PC on, after logging in it pops up with this message

unable to locate c:\windows\system32\2rfefur\smss.exe.

What does this mean, and is it fixable?
This fault seems to be slowing down my PC

Try scanning your computer for viruses

I've done various virus scans,
it picks stuff up then when i delete them and start again.
The message still pops up.

Download and install this:

After installation go to Control Panel > Startup > look thru the entries for:

c:\windows\system32\2rfefur\smss.exe

if you find it, uncheck it.

do a scan and remove them in safe mode. Safe mode can be reached by rebooting the machine and taping f8 while it boots. Do not load it with network support just plain old safe mode. Also if you have more then one virus scaning program installed they may conflict. Just use one (I like AVG but to each there own). Just scan in safe mode and try removing the viruses that way. Viruses and and Spyware tend to be very difficult to remove at times. Try Spysweeper for spyware and avg for viruses and see if that does it. Spysweeper is by Webroot and can be picked up at most retails outlets that sell computer software (ie. Circuit City or Best Buy) I hope that helps if not let me know and good luck.:smile:
